I call myself artist, whatever that is. And what is art, anyway? I even have some "credentials", although boring. I call
them blah, blah, blah. I'll enter them on the last page.
Here's the story of who we are, Walter and Carol Richardson. I am from Baltimore, Maryland. We met in Baltimore
in January, 1987, where we were both living at the time. Walter was born and raised in Anguilla. He asked me to
come to Anguilla with him in May of 1987. I said, "where?...never heard of the place." We arrived here July 4th, 1987.
We lived with his mother Miss Jimmy while we worked on his house on Crocus Hill. We then left Anguilla and lived in St. Thomas
for several years. Miss Jimmy died in 1996. We returned here in 2001 and now live in the house on Crocus Hill, where we have
the Estate Hope Art Studio as part of our residence.
The concept of an artist retreat was my brainchild. Like all my children, it has been sometimes difficult , but very
rewarding. We love Miss Jimmy's. We started the reconstruction in 2004.
Walter and I worked very hard and did all the renovations, as much effort and thought went into creating this retreat.
The house has a spirit and a soul. It has a history. It reflects the values of the past. It is a quiet, restful
place, and hopefully, inspiring.

Our Mission is to introduce you to Anguilla through your artist's eye, to find our beauty is not in the
shiny new condo's and gorgeous hotels among our 23 white sand beaches. As beautiful as they may be, you can visit them at
any time and enjoy the beaches everywhere. To find out that local dining is the Fiday evening barbeque cart across from
the Anglican Church. Or a take out from the Circle Inn for your lunch. Or save lots of money and cook in. Try the recipes
in the local cookbook. Treat yourself to a sumptuous meal somewhere with all that money you saved by cooking your own breakfast.
Forget the camera, take your sketch pad wherever you go. Do both.
Visit our galleries, meet Frank at the Savannah Gallery, within a short walking distance of Miss Jimmy's.
Check out the turpentine tree in his backyard while you are there.
Never mind the fact that Anguilla is considered a "high end" tourism destination because we are not crowded
with cruise ship passengers. And never mind the sometimes very high prices of rooms here in the hotels and villas. OK,
so you won't get a massage at Miss Jimmy's. (?!!) We, on the other hand, are reasonably priced for the accomodations.
The Valley is the "heart" of Anguilla. The post office, government buildings, banks and shops, are all within
walking distance. Our local farmer's market, the Landsome Bowl, where our reggae and carnival music events are held, Webster
Park, where the athletic fields are. Watch a softball game in the evening, see the boys play basketball.
Rent a car, explore our 35 square mile island of all it's nooks and crannies.
The upper Valley area is one of the oldest historic areas, full of charming cottages, churches, corner stores. The Koal
Keel Restaurant in the old warden's place is a popular restaurant.
Crocus Bay beach is the closest, just follow the walking path in front of Miss Jimmy's. You can find the fishermen
there, the seine house, and the bay with calm and gentle waves. If you are adventurous, use the vinyl kyak (provided by
Miss Jimmy's) and paddle around to Little Bay.Or walk the Limestone Road and climb down the rope to Little Bay. Or ask
Bear to take you there in his boat! Take a short hike to the end of Limestone Road to Limestone Bay, another of our spectacular
beaches.
These are just a few suggestions, there are many things to see and do in Anguilla, just click on the links.
